"A cast album ought to be recorded tomorrow and put on sale in the lobby; this is the rare show whose music you want to hear again as soon as you leave it." (Musical Review: The Daily Gotham)

Over two dozen classic blues songs, including "St. Louis Blues", "Cross Road Blues", "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man", and "The Thrill Is Gone" are featured in this show that chronicles the roots and development of blues music in America. The version of "Fever", sung by Carter Calvert, is a sultry show-stopper. Record live at Lincoln Center, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Taj Mahal contributed their considerable talents to studio-recorded guest appearances. The show was nominated for Four Tony® and Three Drama Desk® Awards. The enhanced CD includes a narrative history of the blues by Whoopi Goldberg, Taj Mahal, and Ron Taylor, as well as several dozen historical photos which were used in the stage production.
